Does anyone know if it is possible or has done it to download the library directly - NOT installing on SDD then transferring - to an external HD when updating to Last edited by Elevteros; 27th October at AM..

Sascha Franck. I have not tried installing the library elsewhere and probably won't, my startup drive is large enough to hold it for a while to come , but I think you can just set up a new location with the bare minimum content loaded which is what Logic will install at the first download , then set another location. When you then continue your library download, it'll automatically use that new location for the additional content. Thank you very much Sascha!

I'll try it. Could work indeed. A pain Well I started the download and frankly it is quite a pain you know where! I was able to download the essential files, relocate them onto an external drive. After that you have to download content bit by bit if your main drive is a small SDD otherwise you get a message "your drive is too small, please trash unecessary files, clean up the drive etc Fine but it will take ages. Moreover the Apple loops and impulse files are not relocatable it seems.

Why on earth didn't Apple just let us decide where we want all files located? This is crazy for such a sophisticated DAW. Yes, hard to understand the "motivation", if any. I must say when I had to abandon Logic I switched to Ableton Live which has none of those circumvoluted fiddles.

You just put your files wherever you want, have Live locating them once and you are done! Contact the vendor for additional information. Make sure you're logged in to your Mac as an administrator. Connect an external drive to your Mac. In the window, select the drive where you want to store the Sound Library, then click Relocate. A notification appears when the Sound Library has moved. Give Logic Pro access to your external drive If you get an error that says content can't be relocated, give Logic Pro access to your external drive.

Quit Logic Pro. Click the lock button to make changes. In the left column, click Full Disk Access, then select the checkbox next to Logic Pro in the application window on the right. User-created content is not affected. Relocating the Sound Library to an external drive can free up a large amount of disk space on your system drive. If you change your mind or decide you no longer want to keep the content in another location, you can relocate the Sound Library back to its original location.

When you install additional content after relocation, it is installed in the new location. For detailed information on relocating content and possible issues, see the Support article Move Logic Pro and MainStage content on the support.

When you relocate the Sound Library, it is also relocated for these apps if they are installed on your computer. You can reinstall the Sound Library. This can be useful to make sure you have the latest version of all available content, and also in case the drive containing the Sound Library is no longer available. If the Sound Library is available in its current location when you reinstall it, it is reinstalled in the same location.

If the Sound Library is not available for example, if it is installed on an external drive that is lost or not connected to your computer , it is reinstalled in the default location on your system drive. You can view and delete Logic Pro content by choosing About This Mac from the Apple menu, clicking Storage, then clicking the Manage button for your system storage drive.
